Service: Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery of South Walnut Township.
Visitation: The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger is handling the arrangements.
Donald Lee Kerr was born June 17, 1952, in Estherville, Iowa the son of Howard and Doris (Raepe) Kerr. He was a 1971 graduate of Emmetsburg High School, and he attended Iowa Lakes Community College. Don was also a graduate of the Police Academy at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa. On July 19, 1997, Don was united in marriage to Mary Clayton at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. The couple made their home in Graettinger. Don worked in several law enforcement agencies. He worked as a Palo Alto County Deputy Sheriff, police officer for the city of West Bend, Fort Dodge State Prison and he was currently employed as a correctional officer with the Correctional Facility in Rockwell City. Don enjoyed Dale Earnhardt, John Wayne, fishing and woodworking. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, son and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary of Graettinger and their two children: Gabrielle and Donelle Kerr of Graettinger; two other children: Kristen Lee and Cory Kerr of Rochester; his mother, Doris Kerr of Graettinger; sister, Vicki Rathbun (Steve) of Rochester, MN; brother, Tim Kerr (Kim) of Cylinder, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard; and an infant brother.

Mary, Todd and I are so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband Don. We have many fun memories of you when we worked at SNC together years ago. I always remember you telling stories of Don and Gabby. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mary, Gabby, and Donelle-I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Don from when I was a little girl and he was a deputy. I'd see him at picnics or when I'd visit my mom (Jean Reed) at work. He was such a kind and gentle man. I hope that you can find peace in all the wonderful memories that you have with him.
