Service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 23, at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Visitation: The family will greet friends from 4 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the Funeral Home.
Blanche Elnora (Long) Baxter was born December 11, 1914, in Worthington, MN, the daughter of Milton and Margaret (Miller) Long. She attended Garfield Community School. On November 15, 1932, Elnora was united in marriage to Ernest (Doc) Baxter in Canton, South Dakota. The couple lived on a farm north of Ayrshire before moving to Emmetsburg in 1966. Elnora worked as a clerk for J.C. Penney for years and later as a receptionist for Dr. Hobson. She retired in 1977. She attended the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Elnora enjoyed sewing, embroidery work and cooking. She loved to spend time with her family. On Monday, May 19, 2008, Elnora passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. She was 93. Surviving are three sons: Lawayne “Red” Baxter (Alberta) of Spencer; Eugene “Gene” Baxter (Francine) of Cameron Park, CA and Gary Baxter (Rhonda) of Clear Lake, SD; and a daughter, Jacqualine Bindel (Bill) of Pocahontas; sister, Hazel McDonnel of Mesa Arizona; 17 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Roger Baxter; two brothers: Clifton and Willmer Long; two sisters: Wilma Evans and Verona Anderson; and a great-granddaughter.
