Burial is in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. | | Visitation: The family will greet friends from 4 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home where there will be a parish vigil service at 6:45 p.m. | | Rita Marcella Loring was born March 22, 1924, the daughter of Jacob and Ursula (Wiwi) Loring in Effingham, Illinois. She attended country school. During Rita’s childhood, the Loring family came to Emmetsburg.
On February 3, 1945, Rita was united in marriage to John Goeders at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union, six children were born. Rita always stayed busy. She raised her family, took in ironing, and for a period of time, cleaned homes. Later, she worked as a waitress for a number of restaurants and cafes. She found enjoyment in being around people and waited until her 81st Birthday to retire.
Rita was an avid fisherman, and she would always drag John along with her. Years ago, they enjoyed camping trips and Saturday night dances. She loved surrounding herself with her family. She was a wonderful mother and friend.
On Monday, March 31, 2008, Rita Goeders passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish her memory are five sons: Dennis (Gayle), Leo (Kathy), Mike (Deb), Joe (Lori), all of Emmetsburg, and George (Carolyn) of Northwood, Iowa; her daughter, Susan Rice (Jack) of Emmetsburg; five sisters: Annabelle Walker of Emmetsburg, Alberta Spurlin of Madrid, Pauline Loring of Emmetsburg, Elizabeth Reinders (Jim) and Margaret Onken all of Estherville; four brothers: Ed Loring (Nellie) of Blanco, Alabama, Ray Loring (Carol) Emmetsburg, Larry Loring (Jean) of Ankeny and Frank Loring (Shirley) of Emmetsburg; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and her brother, James Loring. |

I enjoyed the years I worked with Rita more than you kow. She reminded me so much of my own mother, fiesty, outspoken, honest and the funniest lady I have ever known.
