Service: Memorial Mass is 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Emmetsburg. Burial is in St. John's Cemetery, Emmetsburg.
Visitation: 4 - 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 22, 2008 at Joyce Funeral Home. Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary is 4:00 p.m. and a parish vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m.
Helen Therese (Lorig) O達rien of Des Moines, and formerly of Emmetsburg, passed from this life on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at the age of 77 years, two months and 22 days. She had been residing in Des Moines at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Andrew, for nearly ten years, following the onset of a long term illness known as Picks disease. Helen was born in Emmetsburg on Nov. 22, 1930, to Fred Lorig and Mildred Ferguson. She enjoyed life immensely. Helen loved to dance, laugh and play cards with friends and family. She was employed by Brenton Bank for much of her adult life. Helen is survived by her children, Daniel (LuAnn) O達rien, Therese Elsbecker, Joan (Andrew Lietzow) O達rien, James O達rien and Michael (Gayle) O達rien; sister, Lois (Hugh) Neary; grandchildren, Joe, Jason, Janell, Jeff, Katie, Andy, Lisa, Hannah, Drew, Becca, Connor, Carter, Brady and Kasey; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 33 years, Wm. Dean O達rien; sister, Mary Kliegl; and her son-in-law, Paul Elsbecker. Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Family Catholic Church/School in Emmetsburg, Hospice of Central Iowa or The Association for Frontotemporal Dementias.
