Burial is in St. John’s Cemetery, Emmetsburg. | | Visitation: The family will greet friends one hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday. | | Mary Amorita Beenken was born September 28, 1909, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Leners) Reiter. She was a graduate of St. John’s High School in Bancroft, Iowa. On December 22, 1933, Mary was united in marriage to Heiko Beenken in Bancroft, Iowa. The couple farmed near Ayrshire, Iowa before moving to Emmetsburg to retire in 1979.
Mary was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed playing cards and working in her flower garden.
On Sunday, October 14, 2007, Mary passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 98.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Heiko; four sisters: Bertha, Veronica, Elizabeth and Anna; and three brothers: Eugene, Pierre and Earnest.
