He was a graduate of Ringsted High School. Following his education, he joined the United States Army serving during WWII.
On January 28, 1941, Roy was united in marriage to Darlene (Brayton) in Burt, Iowa. Roy and Darlene owned and operated Petersen Furniture in Emmetsburg until they retired in 2006. Roy was an avid golfer. He enjoyed reading, playing cards (especially bridge) and spending time with friends and family.
On Tuesday, August 28, 2007, Roy Petersen passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Darlene of Emmetsburg, two sons: Richard (Gloria) of Fenton, Iowa and Steven (Jean) of Pasadena, California; sister, Ruth Arney of Emmetsburg; sister-in-law, Bernice Petersen of Clarksville, Virginia; five grandchildren: Heath Petersen (Shelia) of Emmetsburg, Matthew Petersen (Renee) of New Ulm, Minnesota, Benjamin Petersen (Krista) of Worthington, Minnesota, Laura Petersen and Craig Petersen of Pasadena, California; and four great-grandchildren: Jessie, Travis, Olivia and Madeline.
