She graduated in 1939 from Emmetsburg High School, and she attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa. On February 1, 1942, Bernadine was united in marriage to Edwin Bredehoeft at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. After marriage, the couple lived in Yuma, Arizona. Four years later, they made their home on a farm north of Emmetsburg. She enjoyed giving of her time and talents wherever they were needed. Although she was involved in many clubs and volunteer organizations, Bernadine found time to love and help deprived children. She was conservator for the three Brodwell Brothers, and she fostered 23 children. Bernadine also provided rooms for college students. She was always willing to open her heart and home. On Friday November 27, 2009, Bernadine Bredehoeft passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home. I have memories of visiting that farm from the time I was a small child. It had originally belonged to my great-grandmother, and then went to my Uncle Bill and Aunt Beatrice Hughes. Ed and Bernadine treated us like family, and took good care of Uncle Bill and Aunt Bea. They bought the farm after Uncle Bill died, but continued to welcome us as "family" all these years. I am grateful that my mother (Alice Neer Hallen Schneider) and I were able to visit Bernadine two years ago. I remember Bernadine as a generous, loving person, as well as an awesome cook and incredibly creative person. She and the farm and all those memories will remain in my heart. Linda Hallen

So sorry to hear of your loss. Bernadine meant so very much to me. I am one of those 23 foster children that she brought in to her home. I loved her as my own mother and she celebrated with me when I had my own children and then grandchildren. I have taken the habit of putting pictures of my family under a clear plastic on the dining table just as she always did. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family.

I was "bountifully blessed" as Bernadine would say, to have met Bernadine through the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a go getter and I couldn't keep pace with her! She will be greatly missed.

I found out through Mom that Bernadine had passed away and that her funeral was today. Gloria and family, I don\'t know if you remember me but I spent huge amounts of time at Bernadine and Ed\'s when I was growing up. She was like a third grandmother. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I will cherish the memories of Bernadine\'s kitchen and the evenings around the dining room table playing cards. I still use her cinnamon roll recipe and can still smell her breadsticks baking. She was a blessing to me, my brother, and Mother. Her memory will always be with me. May the Good Lord Bless You and Comfort you through your loss.

Sadly, we did'nt stay in touch over the years, however Bernadine was instrumental in helping our family when it was needed most and her influence has remained with us and has been a guiding light in how we live our lives. Her advice and wisdom will always be remembered and used. Hearing of her passing has been bittersweet knowing that she will be missed by many on this earth but also knowing she will be welcomed by her Lord & Savior in her new home.

When I teach the lesson on "Go, and make disciples of all nations", I think of my dear Aunt Bernadine. She was always ready to tell the good news of Jesus. Those of us who were blessed to have her as Sunday School teacher or Vacation Bible School teacher know that she not only had the love of Jesus in her heart, but lived it in her life. All of Normadine's children remember the trips to Aunt B's and coming home with new pajamas. We have such warm memories! We were truly blessed to have Aunt B. in our family.

From YUMA, AZ to EMMETTSBURG, IA, Bernadine was a wonderful force to reckon with. Rarely have I met such a unique, giving and loving individual. I will never forget the menagerie of farm animals (and the college kids!) living on the farm. I hope for loads of blessings and spiritual perserverence to all family members. David Brostrom (Linda Hallen\'s former husband, in Waukesha, WI.)

I will never forget this delightful lady who was so excited when we came to Iowa to visit. I am sure she is so much more joyful now in heaven.

Serving as State Predident of Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa was a highpoint of Bernadine's longtime devotion to gardening and garden clubs. She served on the state board for many years. Being in the car together for a day or two going to district meetings around Iowa was always and interesting and learning experience. We're thinking of her extended family at this time of parting.

I read this obituary with great sorrow. As noted in the obituary, we all knew Bernadine was one to give much and take little. It is not until now that I realize all the things she has accomplished in her life. May the love of God be with your family in this time of sorrow. Praise to God for the victory which surpasses all understanding. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
