Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, St. John's Lutheran Church or Stewart Memorial Hospice of Lake City. | | Cheryl Lynn Grage was born December 12, 1959 in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Rolland and Mary (Christensen) Grage. She was a 1978 graduate of Emmetsburg High School and attended Iowa State University. On August 25, 1979, Cheryl was united in marriage to Garry Barkve at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The couple made their home in Emmetsburg.
Cheryl cooked for over twenty years at the Chick Toc, later Oppie’s Family Restaurant in Emmetsburg. She spent several years working in the office at Cargill and until the time of her illness had been employed at SNC Manufacturing. Cheryl was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia, traveling, shopping, working with crafts and spending time with her family. She was such a good aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spending time with them, especially at the park, joking around with them or watching a movie. She loved to rock all of the babies.
On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, Cheryl passed away at the Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City, Iowa.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Garry of Emmetsburg; mother, Mary Grage of Rockwell City; sister, Karen Soenen and her husband, Ken of Rockwell City; two brothers: Rolland Grage and his wife, Helen of Perry and Paul Grage and his wife, Carol of Rockwell City; mother-in-law, Gloria Barkve of Cylinder; nieces and nephews: Ann (Soenen) Zehner and her husband, Dave of Lake Stevens, Washington, John Soenen and his wife, Beth of Coralville, Matt Soenen of Rockwell City, Will Grage of Perry, Elizabeth, Deianeira, and Arieanna Grage of Rockwell City; and great nephews: Jackson Arana, Parker Zehner, and Ryan Zehner all of Lake Steves, Washington. Garry’s entire family was an important part of Cheryl’s life. She is also remembered by her aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rolland Grage and her father-in-law, Harold Barkve.
