In the beauty and stillness of the afternoon, family and friends gathered together for the memorial services of Catherine McBride Crocoll. Born October 2, 1938, she was the third daughter born to John McBride and Kathleen Hendricks, one of seven McBride children. With her children at her side, Catherine was called home to rest on November 8, 2008. This day commemorates her victory over cancer following a courageous four-year battle. After graduating from Lakefield High School (MN), she moved to Washington, DC, where she was employed with the U.S. Naval Department. She became a military wife and the proud mother of four children. She loved the military life and over the years, the family moved often. Her special gift was her ability to make a house a home, no matter the location. During this period of her life, she worked as a teachers’ aide in various school districts. In 1974, the family moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa. There, her children were given the roots, and then later, the wings to accomplish their goals. She was extremely proud of their accomplishments. She took great pride knowing that her parenting skills, developed over a lifetime, had been passed to the next generation and that her influence on the family would continue in the future. Using her homemaker’s skills, she did private home care to assist the homebound. She later joined the Palo Alto Public Health Department and became a Certified Home Care Aide. She was also employed at the Iowa Lakes Community College as a television proctor. She was also a certified Volunteer of CASSA. Her life was full and rewarding. She retired in 2003. In 2004, she accompanied her daughter,Tracey, to Kazakhstan where Tracey adopted a baby girl. They remained in Kazakhastan for six weeks to complete the adoption. This adventure was one of the highlights of Catherine’s life. Her newest granddaughter, little Catherine, was welcomed home. She took her place among her new family, which includes her cousins, aunts and uncle. Catherine was a member of the Holy Family Parish. She faithfully supported the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Paralyzed Veterans and MOCA (Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance). She was a proud member of the “Red Hat Society” along with her sister friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sherry, Tracey, Jeffrey and Laura; sisters: Mary and Ann; her brother, Donald; her nine grandchildren: Jeffrey, Anna, Emily, Joshua, Kenny, Destiny, Jacob, Christian and Catherine and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Kathleen, her brothers: James, Richard and John, Jr.; her sister, Delores; and her nephew, Patrick.

I knew something was wrong when I didn't receive my annual Christmas letter from Cathy. I don't know where to begin, but just having the opportunity to know her and continue over all the years to write to each other. What a beautiful person inside and out. A loving mother and grandmother. My prayers go out to all of you and she will surely be missed by everyone. Love, Your cousin Marlene from Lackawanna, NY

To the Crocoll family, Cathy was an employee of mine for just a short time in Homecare at the PACH Hospital. What a gem!! Her clients ALL loved her and she was just so very gentle and caring with EVERYONE that she visited. She never saw this as a "job" but a pleasure to be a part of everyone's life. God takes the best and you surely had one of the best in your family. Bless her and all of her memories that she left you with. It was a pleasure getting to know her in her short life.
