Dorothy Jean Wolfe

Dorothy Jean (Sims) Wolfe, age 91, formerly of Pickerington, Ohio passed December 4, 2017 at Emmetsburg Care Center, Emmetsburg, Iowa.

Dorothy was a resident of Pickerington, Ohio for 55 years. She moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa to be near her son and his family. Born April 2, 1926 in Canal Winchester, Ohio to the late Ernest Sims and Helen (Thrush) Sims. Dorothy was a graduate of Canal Winchester High School Class of 1944. After graduation she was a book keeper for the Cellar Lumber Company in Canal Winchester, Ohio for 6 years. Also during that time she attended The Ohio State University College of Business.

Dorothy married Jesse Richard Wolfe at David's Evangelical and Reform Church, June 8, 1952.

Dorothy was a charter member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Pickerington, Ohio. She taught Sunday school for several years and was active in the Esther Circle, and the prayer chain.

Dorothy joined the Pickerington Garden Club, October 1958 and served as President and other offices for many years. Dorothy was also a member of The Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC), where she served as a County Contact Chairman of Fairfield County then became a Regional Director for two years over 5 counties. Dorothy studied Flower Design and Horticulture and became an accredited Flower Show Judge in 1973. In June of 2006 The Pickerington Garden Club honored Dorothy with a Lifetime Membership for her service to OAGC.

Dorothy and her daughter, Janet, compiled recipes from Dorothy's friends and family and wrote a cookbook in 2006 titled Dorothy Wolfe's Family and Friends Favorite Recipes Five Generations Cookbook.

Preceded in death by parents, husband, Jesse Richard Wolfe Sr., brother, William Ernest Sims, and sister, Mary Alice (Sims) Schirm.

Survived by her children, Janet Marie Wolfe (Daniel) Packa, and Jesse Richard (Janice) Wolfe Jr. Grandchildren Katie (Mikhael) Barklaev, Jean Louise Wolfe (Jonathan) Spaulding, Jesse Richard (Jenna) Wolfe III, Joshua James (Stephanie) Wolfe, and Jenna Rachel Wolfe. Great Grandson, Jason William Spaulding.

Survived by her sister Margaret Jane (Sims) Lambert, sister in law, Mary (William) Sims, brother in law Harold (Virginia) Cooper, cousins, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 268 Hill Road North (St. Rt. 256) Pickerington, Ohio 43147 on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 10:30a.m. Lunch to follow service at the church. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Epiphany Lutheran Church.
